The park was formerly a mixture of meadows and marshy bullrush beds before the open cast excavation started.
Can you swim in Rother Valley?
Question : Can the public paddle, bathe, or swim at Rother Valley Country Park Lakes or in the River Rother. Answer : No this is not permitted in any of our lakes, at any time due to your safety. There is no free parking!! The £5 charge is outrageous, bearing in mind that Council Tax contributes to the Parks upkeep.
Where can I park for free in Rother Valley?
Rother Valley have a free car park if you go right to bottom of road along side direct cars… (It’s the other end of cafe part to park). Heeley City Farm has free parking, and has a cafe, playground and animals. You can walk over the road to Heeley peoples park.
Can you have BBQs at Rother Valley?
Please note BBQs are currently not permitted in the park. For families who want to learn something together the Activity Centre offers lessons and courses that you as a family can take part together, taster sessions in canoeing and sailing, level 1 and 2 in sailing, 1 star and 2 star canoeing.
Is Rother Valley man made?
It covers 3 square kilometres (740 acres), has four artificial lakes, recreational activities and nature reserves. The majority of the park is on land that was open cast for coal, with the main excavation sites filled by the artificial lakes.
