What is Iols training?
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) gives adult leaders the practical knowledge they need to help Scouts to learn outdoor skills. The training is designed to help all adult leaders regardless of experience level feel comfortable performing and supervising these skills with youth.
What is Iols in BSA?
The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.
Who needs Iols training?
Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered “trained”.
Is Iols required?
Scouting’s outdoor program is a critical part of how the Scouts BSA program develops young leaders. To safely offer Scouting’s outdoor program, however, you need a certain set of skills and knowledge – and that’s why you’re required to take Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (also known as “IOLS”) Training.
Does Iols expire?
IOLs have been around since the late 1940s and were the first devices to be implanted in the body. Unlike natural lenses, IOLs do not break down over a person’s lifetime and do not need to be replaced.

How do I become a BSA assistant manager?
Complete Youth Protection Training, a required course for all registered adult Boy Scouts volunteers. The course is available online and is regularly offered as in-person training at locations in the area. The online course takes about 30 minutes to complete and must be taken every two years.
