How do you test skate skis?
The paper underneath your foot should be stuck or at least very difficult to move. To do the Paper Test for skate skis, stand with equal weight on both skis. The paper should slide underneath the middle of the skis. When standing flat on only one foot, the paper should only slide about 6-8″ or so.
How long do skate skis last?
You can technically ski on an old pair of skis for as long as they are intact and can attach to your ski boots – but if you want to get the best from your expensive lift pass – you probably should upgrade to a new pair at least every 6-12 years. More major improvements in design tend to happen every 5 years.
What happens if you are too heavy for your cross country skis?
If you’re too heavy for the ski, the tip and tail will curve up and not be in contact with the snow, hence you would have no control. However, if you’re too light for the ski, the grip zone will not be in contact with the snow when you most need it.
Do skate skis wear out?
How old or fatigued are the skis? Even good skis wear out. Holding your skis together bottom to bottom, give your skis a squeeze. If it’s easy to press them together, you don’t have much camber left.
What happens if skis too short?
Having skis that are too short to support your weight will have a lack of control, lack of response or rebound, and will not absorb the vibration when at a higher speed.
Does weight matter for skate skis?
All skis have a recommended weight range for each length option. Skate skis will be closer to your own height in length. Expert skiers (both classic and skate) have the skill and fitness to flex stiffer skis, so they’ll generally prefer slightly longer skis for the increased rigidity and glide they provide.
How stiff should skate skis be?
Ideally, we look for a ski that will support your body weight while maintaining the longest running surface as possible on the snow. When you push off, the ski should feel snappy and almost give a little back at the end of the stride.

Can a 300 pound person ski?
Do skis have a weight limit? Most ski shops have equipment readily available for skiers up to 230 pounds (104kg). If you weigh over 230 pounds, it doesn’t mean you have to sit the day out in the lodge. It just means that the rental shop may have a harder time finding skis that will suit your weight.
