Where is Kua Bay in Hawaii?
Kua Bay is located just 12 miles north of Kailua-Kona along the Kohala Coast between the 88 and 89-mile markers on Hwy 19 right across from the entrance to West Hawaii Veteran’s Cemetery. Follow the road about a mile to the beach. There is a gate at the entrance that opens at 8 am and closes at 7 pm.
Is Kua Bay crowded?
Kua bay is a popular destination in the weekend for locals and tourists, so the best time to visit is during weekdays. There is little shelter from the sun and in general we like to go early to avoid the midday sun (and crowds).
Can you drive to Kua Bay?
Drive about 1.5 miles down the Kua Bay Access Rd. to the parking lot at the end. The parking lot tends to fill quickly during the weekends, so people also park along the sides of the last part of the road. There is a roundabout at the end of the road which makes exiting more convenient.
Is Kua Bay beach open?
Hāpuna Beach parking area is open daily. The Maniniʻōwali, or Kua Bay, section of Kekaha Kai is open to vehicle access on weekends only. Overnight lodging for Hawaiʻi Island sites is anticipated to reopen in mid-to-late June.

The Manini’owali section (Kua Bay) of Kekaha Kai State Park is closed on Wednesdays. It has a separate access road from the main Kehaka Kai park access to the south; those more southern parts of the park are open daily.
