When was the Deeside bridge built?
Work on the the bridge began in 1994 and was completed in 1997 at a total cost of £55m. The 965 ft long bridge carries the A548 linking Flint and Connah’s Quay to the shore north of the River Dee at the southern end of the Wirral Peninsula, it reaches an impressive 387ft into the air.

A nice E-bike tour, including a bridge (Flintshire Bridge). During this route you’ll also enjoy the view on the castle (Flint Castle). This route is also suitable for a race bike. A lot of ups and downs along this route, but also some steep climbs.

You can drive and cycle over the Flintshire Bridge but you’re not meant to walk over it (at least there’s signs saying no walking). Cycling over is a fun though I went on the drainage ditch given the speed of the traffic (national speed limit).

A conference is due to take place to hear proposals for a £200m rail upgrade linking Merseyside and North Wales through a new “super-hub.” This would see the existing Wrexham line to Bidston in Wirral extended to create a Liverpool to Wrexham service, along similar lines to the Merseyrail network.
