What is 500 7 grade?
EN-GJS-500-7 is an SG iron grade containing graphite nodules or spheres, Spheroidal Graphite. The rounded graphite nodules produces a more ductile cast iron that inhibits the formation of cracks. SG iron such as EN-GJS-500-7 has a greater fatigue and impact resistance compared to grey iron.
How is SG iron made?
To make S.G. Iron, mild steel scrap, Fe-Si, Coke etc. is melted in induction furnace. Once the melt is ready, it is inoculated with small addition of Magnesium or Chromium available in Ferro blends. The metal is then poured into moulds, cooled and fettled.
Is 1865 a chemical composition?
Spheroidal or nodular graphite cast iron or ductile iron is a casting alloy of iron and carbon, carbon being present in the spheroidal form. Graphite flakes in cast iron act as discontinuities in the matrix and thus lower its mechanical proper- ties. The sharp corners of the flakes also act as stress raisers.
Is SG an iron standard?
Ductile iron is also called as nodular iron or SG iron. Its chemical components did not have strict range for many material standards, however, its range should be useful for buyers to evaluate the quality of cast iron. Please remember the chemical components are only a reference, not a strict standard to the material.
What is SG grade pig iron?
Level of customisation
Grade | Carbon | Manganese |
---|---|---|
Basic Grade | 3.5% – 4.6% | 0.4% – 1.2% |
Nodular/SG Grade | 3.5% – 4.6% | 0.3% max |
3.5% – 4.6% | 0.3% max | |
Foundry Grade | 3.5% – 4.3% | 1.00% max |
What is the difference between SG iron and cast iron?
Ductile iron can be bent without breaking, whereas cast iron is brittle and breaks when bent. As ductile iron can be bent, it can be made into different shapes and forms. But one cannot make out different shapes and forms using cast iron.
Is SG iron weldable?
As the lack of ductility is caused by the coarse graphite flakes, the graphite clusters in malleable irons, and the nodular graphite in SG irons, give significantly higher ductility which improves the weldability.
What does SG iron stand for?
spheroidal graphite iron
Ductile iron, also known as ductile cast iron, nodular cast iron, spheroidal graphite iron, spheroidal graphite cast iron and SG iron, is a type of graphite-rich cast iron discovered in 1943 by Keith Millis.
Is 210 GREY cast iron?
The Pig Iron and Cast Iron Sectional Committee decided to revise IS 210 by merging it with IS 6331 : 1987. The higher grades of grey cast iron (that is, Grades FG 300, FG 350 and FG 400) present special difficulties for section 10 mm and thinner.
What is the difference between pig iron and cast iron?
The main difference between cast iron and pig iron is that: (B) Cast iron has lower carbon content (3%) as compared to pig iron (4%) and is extremely hard and brittle. (C) Pig iron contains many impurities like S, P, Si and Mn while cast iron does not contain any impurity and can be cast into any shape.
What is the difference between pig iron cast iron and wrought iron?
Pig iron and cast iron have higher carbon content than wrought iron, but have a lower melting point than iron or steel. Cast and especially pig iron have excess slag which must be at least partially removed to produce quality wrought iron.
