Drop into Faron Woods near the Viewing Platform bird statue. Use dowsing there, and you’ll see that the Trial Gate you’re looking for is right in front of the temple. Jump down to the bare patch of ground and play the Goddess’s Harp. Fi will help you through activating the gate.

Use the EASTERN exit from the cave to reach the initial Lanayru Mine area with your Clawshots. Here you can pick up another TreasureChest with an Evil Crystal within. Head back to the Lanayru Caves and use Small Key on the western door to enter the Sand Sea region.
