Can I use an internal Blu-ray drive externally?
Obtain a USB enclosure with wall power to put it in. Cut a hole in the side of your case to snake out the SATA data and power cable, turning your otherwise internal drive into an “external bluray drive”
Are external Blu-Ray drives worth it?
Yes a bluray reader/burner is good to have. They are not very popular these days but they can be a useful tool for various situations. Having data backups on a different medium (for example if you get hit with randsomware). BD-R discs are usually write once and are ‘offline’ backups.
Can external DVD drives play Blu-Ray?
Yes, an external disc drive will only play CDs and DVDs. However, if you buy an external Blu-ray disc drive, it will have the capability of playing Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs.
Are external optical drives as good as internal?
Real world performance is no difference. As stated, the disk speed is so much slower that the USB chipset will be waiting on it.
Why is an SSD more stable than an HDD?
Generally, SSDs are more durable than HDDs in extreme and harsh environments because they don’t have moving parts such as actuator arms. SSDs can withstand accidental drops and other shocks, vibration, extreme temperatures, and magnetic fields better than HDDs. Almost all types of today’s SSDs use NAND flash memory.
Is Blu-ray obsolete?
Blu-ray. Things currently look rather bleak for Blu-ray. Major manufacturers have seemingly stopped producing new players (we’ve only had one in for review in almost two years), and it’s unlikely that plucky upstart Reavon is going to be able to turn the tide on its own.
Is a DVD writer the same as an external hard drive?
Both are limited by the size of the media and a hard drive can be much larger where as Each DVD disc is limited to 4.7GB single sided or 8.5 if it’s a dual layered single sided. A hard drive size can be measured in terabytes and access times are much faster.
