Recently the heads of major Ukrainian TV channels and media groups (ICTV - Alexander Bogutskiy, Inter Media Group - Anna Bezlyudna, Starlight Media - Vladimir Borodyansky, Media Group Ukraine - Fedor Ogarkov and 1 +1 Media - Alexander Tkachenko) sent an open letter to Russian colleagues.
Here’s text of the letter:
«Dear colleagues and friends!
We are familiar with you for a long time, we are united joint projects, largely general outlook on life, and we are all madly in love TV.
We believe and know that you, just as we do not want the war between the two brotherly peoples - Russian and Ukrainian.
Each of us - a patriot of his country, and each of us has a special responsibility in this difficult moment and explosive.
We ask you to open, balanced and objective coverage of events occurring today in Ukraine. We ask you to understand and support the position of the central Ukrainian TV channels and a responsible attitude to every word. We have no right to stir up enmity between the fraternal Russian and Ukrainian peoples, to broadcast unverified information or distorting reality.
We believe that if the current confrontation escalate into military action - the winners will not lose everything. Lose our peoples that history, faith, blood, are inextricably linked. We believe that today, together we can do anything to prevent this from happening.
We believe that our two countries will be peace. “This letter was specifically addressed the General Director: Channel One - Konstantin Ernst, RTR - Oleg Dobrodeev and NTV - Vladimir Kulistikova.
The response they did not hesitate.
«Dear brothers and sister, major TV broadcasters in Ukraine!< p> It is difficult to imagine you as a writing of the Cossacks, and themselves in the role of the Turkish sultan, because we are with you - one and indivisible great Slavic television space, which has become an integral part of the daily lives of millions of citizens of Russia and Ukraine. And if in this space it comes to war, it is important to note, at what point is a terrible word was relevant. Not with whether the time as people tried to discriminate against new Russian language in which we communicate with you and prophesy? Maybe, if your appeal is made at this point, and we’d just joined him, could have avoided the subsequent developments.
In a circle of friends, and we are with you friends, do not talk about parity. But like you, and we have, there are journalists, operators, technicians, who perform their duty in areas of tension. We would like to ask you. Are there any obstacles to the implementation of this debt by your employees in the Russian Federation? Does someone threatens them with physical violence from the Russians for what they are aired and reported that, in their opinion, is happening in Russia? No offense, but if you ask us similar questions, the answers will be disappointing. In Kiev and other regions that control the new government, our journalists have recently become a constant threat, even violence, and some melkobanditskoy slaughter. We respect our profession, never stoop to a symmetrical response. And we want to emphasize that all those forced measures, which went to the Russian Federation, just focus on what to avoid such a scenario in large and small.
With regard to objectivity and responsibility, and we would like to appeal to you A similar appeal. Let’s be objective and responsible, let’s weigh the words and restrain emotions, let’s not do this apart, as has become a tradition in recent years, and together. And it will certainly give an objective picture of reality. What now for all the most important thing.
Friends! Establish your life. We are always with you and help you ».
PS After reading this correspondence, I decided to refresh your memory: but about what wrote Cossacks Ottoman Sultan (according to one version, Mehmed IV) in response to his ultimatum to stop attacking the Sublime Porte and surrender? And did not find any decent lines, which could be cited. But I caught myself thinking: text of a letter signed by ataman Ivan Sirko with all camping Zaporozhye, painfully reminded me almost entirely due to heavy mat zapikali monologues violent Bilogo Sasha, who is a prosecutor shook his tie, then the deputies threatened automaton - these shots actively demonstrated both Ukrainian (though not all), and in Russian (absolutely all) channels.
And I thought: it’s still a good idea that the leaders of the largest Ukrainian channels and media groups, “awakened” after finally maydanovskih nights illuminated by flashes of “Molotov cocktails” and imbued with live bullets that killed dozens of people who have decided to “get in touch” with the public, with their Russian telekollegami. Maybe “brothers and sisters” and are beginning to realize the truth, what really happened in the troubled Square?
